Forget Pongal for the time being, still a long way off. All films which have announced a Pongal release are still shooting or in post-production stage.
Anyway before that Tamil Nadu will witness a big clash for Christmas on December 20. The most anticipated Indian film of the year Dhoom 3 will be simultaneously released in Hindi and Tamil versions. And it is going to compete with Karthi’s Venkat Prabhu directed Biriyani and Jiiva’s Ahmed directed Endrendrum Punnagai.
Dhoom 3, the action-thriller starring the most popular Bollywood star in Tamil Nadu, Aamir Khan is one of the most-awaited films of 2013. It is the third instalment in the "Dhoom" franchise. The film directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra has Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif playing the antagonist duo with regulars Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra.
Yash Raj Films through Sathyam Cinemas is distributing the film in Tamil Nadu. And they have already started booking screens, especially in rural Tamil Nadu. The exhibitors TN have a lot of faith in Dhoom franchise. The Hindi and the Tamil versions of Dhoom 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, were super hits at the TN box office.
Meanwhile the two Tamil films Biriyani and Endrendrum Punnagai are being distributed by Studio Green and Red Giants respectively. They are two of the most formidable distributors in Tamil Nadu. The kind of clout that they have among the exhibitors is terrific.
So this Christmas it is going to be a battle royale in TN box-office. All the three films will try to garner the maximum number of screens to take that all important opening.
