The local Tamil press has been on the overdrive saying that Aishwarya Rai or Rani Mukherjee will be doing Sivaji. But Bollywood industry grapevine has it that no 'A'-grade heroine will do a south Indian movie, as it is suicidal for their career in Hindi films.

In the last three years, which top heroine has featured in south films? Ash, Rani or Preity has not done a single south film during this period, while out-of-work rejects like Manisha Koirala or Shilpa Shetty may have done the odd Tamil or Telugu film.

Rani Mukherjee in a recent television interview said she has very lucrative offers from south, but she does not want to spoil her image after doing films like Black and Paheli with top banners and stars like King Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

In an off-the-record talk with a very famous cameraman based in Chennai who is Rani’s favourite lensman, she is reported to have said that south superstars films are "crass and crude and women are just used as glam dolls in ridiculously picturised songs".

Why should Ash do a south film at a time when she is trying to make a breakthrough in Hollywood? In all her interviews including that famous Oprah Winfrey show, she acknowledges only Mani sir's Iruvar, no mention of Shankar's Jeans or Rajiv Menon's Kandu Kondein Kandu Kondein!!

Even one or two film old actresses in Mumbai today think twice before doing a south Indian film. Remember in Bollywood no actress is successful in both type of films and their career is short lived. Ayesha Takia became very hot after Nagarjuna discovered her in south with his Telugu Super.

But Ayesha just refused to do any more south films including Sivaji, as she was more interested in doing trash Hindi films like Shaadi No:1 and Home Delivery. The young new breed of Bollywood heroines too is avoiding south films, due to the image problems.
