Chennai weekend box-office (Feb 04-06)

Tuesday, 08 February , 2005, 15:17

It was Black magic at the Chennai box-office. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's critically acclaimed Black netted an incredible Rs 9,52,000 net from two screens with Satyam alone netting Rs 7,07,000! Vijay's Tirupachi is way down at number two position having netted just Rs 6,27,000 from four screens in Chennai city.

Close on its heels at number three we have Kalignarin Kannamma which has become a "must-see" for DMK cadres in the city. The Sanjay Dutt-Ashwarya Rai-Zayed Khan snooze inducing Shabd took a good opening but has fallen by Monday is at number four and the biggest surprise packet is Udayananu Tharam, the Mohanlal starrer which has shown an increase in its collections more than its opening weekend collections at Sangam!

Film Cast Pluses Minuses Trade fact

Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee Class act, all round superb performance Too classy and a bit preachy for the common man Has taken a fantastic opening with Rs 9,52,000 net from two screens with Satyam alone netting Rs 7,07,000!

Vijay, Mallika,Trisha,Vadivel. Vijay and his electrifying screen presence Same old recycled violence with nothing new in story and presentation! After grossing an amazing 74, 25, 168 in two weeks, from four theatres the Vijay magic seems to be fading.

Kalingarin Kannamma
Meena Brand value of Kalingnar Amateurish direction, looks like a 50's tearjerker The DMK cadres are making it a hit.

Aishwarya Rai, Sanjay Dutt The star cast A lot and is sleep inducing Took a great opening but started sliding

Udayananu Tharam
Mohanlal, Sreenivasan, Meena Excellent story and script with top class acting from lead actors Nothing Will collect a record Rs 6 Lakhs from Sangam theatres

(Ratings are based on the box office collections and the cost of the film)
