The Diwali-Id weekend box-office was ruined due to heavy rains that lashed Chennai and other parts of Tamilnadu. This stopped people from reaching theatres as public transport buses were also affected and power supply was shut down for safety reasons in some low lying areas of North and Central Chennai.

Still Vijay's Sivakasi is the clear number one at Chennai BO. This mass entertainer took a fabulous opening with serpentine queues in front of theatres screening the film. At second place is Vikram's Majaa which took a decent opening but is sliding. Ghajini managed to be at number three position and still holds on with 70 to 80 percent on weekends.

At fourth place is Garam Masala and at fifth place is a Malayalam film, Mammootty's Rajamanickam which has opened well.
