Chennai Box Office - February 25 to 27 | Wednesday, 02 March , 2011, 11:23
Box office reports
It was one of the worst weekends at the Chennai box office, as collections went southward.
On Sunday, as India clashed with England in a thrilling match that resulted in a tie, collections in the city multiplexes were down by 10 to 20 per cent. However, the single screens' occupancy was around 40 to 50 per cent!
A leading multiplex spokesperson said: "It was not only cricket, but the lack of good content that has made people shy away from new releases. Payanam has emerged as the family favourite over Nadunisi Naaygal and Yuddham Sei, due to good word of mouth."
Prakash Raj has pulled off the impossible. In its third week, his Radha Mohan-directed Payanam - thanks to a publicity boost and being a "clean film for family audiences" - has emerged as the new number one at CBO.
The new release of the week, Seedan, is at number two, while Gautham Menon's Nadunisi Naaygal - due to negative factors surrounding it - took a beating after a very good first week, and is in the third position.
In fourth place is Yuddham Sei, which is holding on well, and in fifth place is Madhavan's Tanu Weds Manu.
