Chennai Box-Office (June 22 to 24)

Wednesday, 27 June, 2012, 02:30

The Chennai box-office has been ignited this week by Karthi`s Saguni. The film had taken an earth shaking opening of Rs 2.25 Crores due to its wide release, nearly 50 screens in Chennai and suburbs.Saguni was backed by aggressive promotions by its presenter KE Gnanavel Raja which worked magic at the box-office. In multiplexes like Sathyam Cinemas it opened in two huge screens (Sathyam & Santham) and all over went for saturation release, which resulted in the film opening at the number one slot. There was also no opposition to Saguni, with Ajith`s Billa 2 release getting postponed at the last minute. Plus there were no big releases from Hollywood and Bollywood. It worked to the advantage of the Karthi starrer, which has opened at the number one position.Way down the ladder Kalakalappu is at number two, Manam Kothi Paravai in the third position, and at number four is Madgascar 3: Europe`s Most Wanted a runaway super hit in high end multiplexes. In the fifth place is Anurag Kashyap`s Gangs of Wasseypur which had a limited release.
