Two films with practically newcomers and fresh theme – Vineeth Sreenivasan`s Thattathin Marayathu and Anwar Rasheed`s Ustad Hotel not only became trendsetters but stormed the box-office. They are super mega hits which awakened the Kerala audiences from deep slumber.Thattathin Marayathu is going to be the biggest box-office hit in the history of Malayalam cinema. The film has grossed Rs 10.52 Crore from 67 screens in Kerala in 21 days, which is historic. It means the film has got a distributor`s share of Rs 4.65 Cr from theatricals alone in 3 weeks, a new record!Thattathin Marayathu created a new city record in Ernakulam where it netted Rs 62 lakhs from Padma, Sridhar and two multiplexes. A distributor`s share of approximately Rs 34.2 lakhs in three weeks, extraordinary!In Thiruvananthapuram, which has the lowest ticket rates among cities in Kerala, the film has taken a distributor`s share of Rs 19.5 lakhs in 21 days. Thattathin Marayathu is clearly the number one film of the year.Anwar Rasheed`s Ustad Hotel is at number two position. The film has also done extraordinary business, grossing Rs 7.65 Cr in 28 days from 60 screens. It means a distributor`s share of approximately Rs 3.36 Cr, which makes it a super hit.At number three is Lal Jose`s Diamond Necklace made on a budget of Rs 3.5 Cr and having collected Rs 4.5 Cr from theatricals alone making it a hit.
