AIt turned out to be a cracker of a Diwali weekend. Ajith`s Arrambam which released (Oct 31) two days prior to Diwali took an earth shaking opening.
Arrambam was clear number one by a mile as Chennai city and Chengalpet area had nearly 250 screens, a large number of shows and occupancy around 90 to 95 %.
All in All Azhaguraja too opened in the second largest number of screens, but due to bad word-of-mouth, many shows could not get houseful after day one. Inspite bad WOM the film is number 2.
And in the third place is Vishal`s Pandiya Nadu which got lesser screens than the other two and smaller screens in multiplexes, but good WOM. It got a lukewarm opening but film will pick up in its second week.
In the fourth place is Hrithik Roshan`s Krrish 3, which has got the smallest screens in multiplexes and a limited release. The only film which could hold on against the Diwali onslaught of Tamil films is Gravity, running in multiplexes with almost 85 to 90 % occupancy in its fourth week.
