Brit kids lack bird knowledge

School children in Britain are dunces when it comes to identifying wild birds, a new survey has revealed.

The average schoolchild can only name three wild birds.

Most of the 1000 children within the age of 6 to 15, who were interviewed, said that they were not taught about them at school.

Another 40 per cent revealed they did not have a bird bath, table or nest box.

The survey for pet food store and insurers Pets at Home said that 47 per cent of children could name only three birds - most commonly the robin, blue tit and swan.

However, despite lacking knowledge, 70 per cent of the children feed birds in winter.

"Children are less connected with nature and that's a shame, but we can't blame them for that," the Daily Express quoted RSPB youth manager Mark Boyd as saying. (ANI)
