Why are young directors with style of their own and new ideas running after superstars? Vishnuvardhan and Mysskin the two directors who have proven track records along with Hari, Ilamkannan, ‘supergood’ Subramaniam, former journalist Babu are all writing scripts for Vijay, Ajit, Vikram and Suriya? They are living in an “illusion” that they will one day be doing a film for a superstar.

Take Vishnuvardhan the man who rewrote the rule s of Tamil commercial cinema with two hits Arindhum Ariyamalum and Pattiyal? He should have done his next film with any young star instead of doing a film for producer turned director Bala with a superstar!

It seems that Mysskin had a meeting with a superstar who promised to give him a date in June 2007! Another superstar who has been in search of a good script heard the narration from ‘supergood’ Subramaniyam an assistant director and cleared the project and paid him a token advance. But a few days later, the superstar after watching a Kannada film had a change of mind and decided to plumb for the Kannada director!

Former journalist Babu who has worked under director Saran is waiting with a readymade script for the last one year! He thought that he got big break after a leading producer cleared his one-line script and signed him up but the latest we hear is that the producer is thinking of making a film with a superstar with a director of his choice.

The young up-coming assistant director of today’s lack the guts, confidence and honesty of directors of yesteryear like a Bharathiraja or Vikraman who had gone against the tide and tasted success in a big way. Today’s young directors believe that instant fame and success at box-office is guaranteed with superstar films.
