As reported earlier the Pongal releases have taken a pasting in its second week, with most of the theatres just playing them for the sake of it. Tirupachi is the only Pongal release which manages to hold on though it is also dropping.

The big surprise is that Kathal has managed to not only survive the Pongal onslaught but managed to be at the second position. Subhash Ghai's Kisna which is a flop has managed to be at the number three position in Chennai city due to its good opening.

Film Cast Pluses Minuses Trade fact

Vijay, Mallika,Trisha,Vadivel Vijay and his electrifying screen presence Same old recycled violence with nothing new in story and presentation! After taking a fantastic opening, the film has started sliding in the second week.

Bharath, Sandhya. A very touching story plus good performance from lead pair. A contrived climax and slow narration in the second half. The film is drawing huge family audience and from Chennai alone it may collect Rs 80 Lakhs, its production cost!.

Vivek Oberoi, Antonia Bernath, Isha Shravani Nothing really. Far too many... Took a decent opening but the word-of-mouth is so bad that by Sunday it has started falling in Chennai!

Devathaye Kandein
Dhanush, Sridevi No comments. An inane story with a banal presentation. Taken a good opening but fallen in its second week.

Sarath Kumar, Napolean, Prakash Raj, Nayantara Sarath Kumar's knock-out performance and good music by Bharadwaj. Slow Moving. Lack of commercial elements. Youth has nothing in it. Taken a lukewarm opening.

(Ratings are based on the box office collections and the cost of the film)
