'Chronicle' wins tight weekend box office race against 'A Woman in Black'

Michael B. Jordan's 'Chronicle' opened much better-than-expected at the Super Bowl weekend box office and raked in 22 million dollars, edging out Daniel Radcliffe's 'A Woman in Black'.

'The Woman in Black' stars the 'Harry Potter' actor Radcliffe in his first movie since the final instalment of that massive franchise. The film boasts enough jump-out-of-your-seat moments to satisfy even the most hard-core horror movie fan and debuted with 21 million dollars.

Liam Neeson's 'The Grey' saw a steep drop from its opening take, earning 9.5 million dollars compared to 19.6 million dollars in its first weekend in theatres, Us magazine reported.

Universal's 'Big Miracle', starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski follows the story of a news reporter and his former girlfriend who is a Greenpeace volunteer on a mission to save a family of gray whales trapped by ice in the Arctic Circle, earned an 8.5 million dollars debut.

'Underworld: Awakening' in 3D rounded off the top five with an earning of 5.6 million dollars in its third weekend of release and a total of 54.3 million dollars in the North American blood bank.
