Pranchiyettan and the Saint

The International Film Festival Kerala (IFFK) is all set to begin this year, amidst lots of controversies.

It all started with the issue over the hike in delegate fees and then, the ‘Delegates Forum’ protested against the fine for delay in collecting the passes.

The issues concerning the selection of films started hogging the headlines with the inclusion of director Sherry’s Adimadhyantham, which was reportedly incomplete while it was selected by the committee.

Now the film has been ruled out of the competition section along with the National award winning Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu, which had to be taken out as it was shown in other festivals before.

Some of the widely appreciated films like director Madhav Ramadasan’s Melvilasom, which was shown in the Busan International Film festival and also in the recently completed International Film Festival of India at Goa, were not selected for the festival. But the director has refused to comment on the issue.

The Malayalam films today section includes Kamal’s Khaddama, V K Prakash’s Karmayogi, Jayaraj’s Pakarnnattam, Shalini Usha Nair’s Akam, Ranjith’s Pranchiyettan and the saint, T V Chandran’s Sankaranum Mohananum and Rajesh Pillai’sTraffic.

The festival is from 9th to 16th December.
