Cyclone Nilam which hit Chennai and surrounding districts on Wednesday caused all round havoc.  Over 100 trees were uprooted , five people died and many areas were flooded.

The Chennai and NSC (North & South Arcot, Chengalpet) box-office was washed away. Many theatres including mall multiplexes like Escape and Inox in Chennai city were closed due to storm warning.

Many single screens in NSC area which bore the brunt of the cyclone were closed. Says a spokesperson of Tamil Nadu Theatre Association: “ From Tuesday itself collections had dropped due to storm warning and with the cyclone arriving by Wednesday evening most of the theatres closed voluntarily for the day due to lack of audiences and as a safety measure.”

Now theatres are looking eagerly for the Diwali films Thuppakki and Podaa Podi to revive the box-office. Till then it will be a relatively quiet at TN box-office.
