Delhi Belly, the pathbreaking Bollywood film that has created box-office history, is now hot on the remake market in Tamil.
At least three prominent directors have shown an interest in buying the remake rights of this trend-setter.
A prominent Tamil director who saw Delhi Belly first day night show said on conditions of anonymity : "I loved the 95 minutes film which was altogether a different take by director Abhinay Deo. There was nothing new in the story but the way it was packaged was cool and racy. The youngsters loved the new genre movie. I feel that it has potential to be remade in Tamil targeting the multiplex audiences."
Another young director said: "The film works because the entire star cast of Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Vir Das, Shehnaz and Vijay Raaz are characters who get us hooked to the racy narration and did not try to be stars. I don't know whether a Tamil remake will get through our moral police and local censors, but that's the way movies are going to be made in future."
However Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures, the producers of the film, have no plans to sell the Tamil remake rights.
They themselves are toying with the idea of remaking Delhi Belly in Tamil and Telugu!
