Dhanush has conquered Bollywood-not with his killer looks or a six-pack, but with his irresistible charm and fine performance as the innocent Kundan in his debut film Raanjhanaa.
His boy-next-door image and simplicity has captured the minds of Hindi audiences.
Raanjhanaa directed by Anand L Rai has stormed the Bollywood box-office. The film has netted an amazing Rs 20.08 crore approximately in its opening weekend (June 21 to 23).
This is the most sensational Hindi film debut by a south Indian hero since Kamal Haasan’s 1981 Ek Duuje Ke Liye, a blockbuster at that time. Raanjhanaa’s opening is as good as a regular Bollywood hero film.
The three day Raanjhanaa weekend opening collections are more than the entire first week collections of Anand L Rai’s last release Tanu Weds Manu! As per trade pundits Raanjhaanaa has potential to collect a share of Rs 30 to Rs 35 Crore from theatrical alone.
There have been other south Indian heroes who have debuted in Hindi like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Vikram, Siddharth, Madhavan, Suriya, Rana Daggubatti, and Prithviraj among others. But none of their films has created such an huge impact.
Dhanush is today riding a wave as he is not only successful in Kollywood but also Bollywood. At moment the actor is looking forward for Maryan, his next release in Tamil. He has also committed to two films in Tamil -Sargunan’s Naiyaandi and a film with KV Anand.
