The Information and Broadcasting ministry has reportedly opposed the screening of films based on sensitive issues like Rohith Vemula, the JNU controversy and Kashmir at the forthcoming documentary and short film festival of Kerala.

The chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, filmmaker Kamal, has expressed his concern to this move saying there seems to be an undeclared cultural emergency in the country.

Kamal has been in the midst of controversies following his remarks on the activities of BJP, on the National Anthem issue and also about his biopic on writer Kamala Das.
