After experimenting with various genres, actor-producer Lakshmi Prasanna has now come up with a comedy thriller. Dongata is her latest movie in which she played the role of an actress. The film is a reasonable crime comedy with some funny moments. Twists and some nice comedy scenes in the second half make the movie worth a watch.
A popular actress Shruti (Lakshmi Prasanna) is kidnapped by three men. The gang demands ransom of Rs 10 Crs from Shruti's mother. As her mother is trying to bring back her daughter, differences among the kidnap gang change the dynamics. What went wrong with the kidnap forms the rest of the movie.
The film's story line is wafer thin. Despite flimsy line, the director has tried to hold the audiences' interest with decent screenplay. But what works against the movie is stale comedy between Brahmanandam and Pragati and predictable situations in the first half. Climax is pretty letdown.
It is Lakshmi Prasanna's show all the way. In fact, she is the pivot around which the story is developed. She is perfect in the role of a rich spoilt movie actress. Adivi Sesh, Madhu and Venkat as the kidnap gang have done their part well.
Other plus point of the movie is the 'Breakup' song that features Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja, Nani, Rana, Tapsee and other celebs in a cameo appearances.
Good technical values like cinematography, editing, music (by Raghu Kunche) have made the movie look rich. New director Vamsi Krishna is good at handling comedy.
Overall, Dongata is decent movie with some nice thrills despite occasional double meaning dialogues.
Verdict: Time pass movie
