Nayanthara has always sprung a surprise at regular intervals.
And here's the latest exclusive on her. Diana Mariam Kurian (her original name) a born Christian has converted to Hinduism on Sunday (August 7) morning at Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai.
Nayan flew in from Kochi on Sunday morning and headed straight to the Arya Samaj Temple at Waltax Road in Chennai at around 11am.
She went through Shuddhi Karma, a procedure involving a Vedic purification and a Homan (a typical Hindu ritual done in front of fire) where Nayan chanted the hymns from Veda and Gayathri mantra under the guidance of the priest.
After the purification ceremony, a Certificate of Conversion to Hinduism was issued to her and she rushed back to Kochi by evening flight.
She will now be officially known by her Hindu name, Nayanthara.
So is this conversion a prelude to her impending marriage to her boyfriend Prabhu Deva? With great difficulty, we tracked her down and reluctantly she told sify.com: "Yes, I have become a Hindu and it's my own personal decision. I went through the entire ceremony with passion and conviction".
First it was a tattoo of Prabhu Deva on her body and then came the decision to stay away from films and limelight at a time when she was a top star. And now she has gone a step further and done the ultimate thing by changing her religion, all for her love.
And we understand that contrary to reports in the media, Prabhu Deva' s ex-wife Ramlath had not changed her religion but only gone for a change of name (Latha) in the gazette for her kids passport.
So is this religion change, another step taken by the couple for an immediate marriage? Nayan is tight lipped and says: "No comments".
