Yesterday, we reported on Thala Ajith being appointed ‘Helicopter Test Pilot and UAV System Adviser’ of Madras Institute of Technology. For people who don’t know, Ajith developed the interest in aero-modeling even before 1992. As a youngster, Ajith used to tell that the technology would help people in natural calamities.

“Ajith imports each and every screw, chipset and assemble drones on his own. Recently when Ajith visited MIT to know about quadcopter, professors were amazed by the speed at which he assembles a drone. They have also given him the relaxation to work from home and believes his expertise which he gained in 26 years would help students at MIT”, said a source close to the actor.

“The strike period in the industry actually helped Ajith to achieve his dream. Ajith used to daily visit college at 9 AM and come back only in the evening for nearly two months. MIT has offered him a pay of Rs 1000 per session but Ajith asked the amount to be transferred to needy students”, added the source.

“Ajith wanted to complete the project in two months because once Viswasam shoot begins, he wouldn’t be able to complete it so the actor worked day and night to get his certification and pulled it off a few days before the deadline”, says the source.

During Paramasivan time, Ajith had his own workshop. “Once he starts assembling drone at his workshop, he would not come out for three days because it would be tedious to resume the process”. At the early days, Ajith had a tough time in operating drones because there was not enough place in city limits so he would go all the way to the outskirts of Chennai city for practice. When Government prohibited drones, Ajith stopped practicing it here in the country.

When the actor visited MIT to gain knowledge on the quadcopter, he interacted with the faculties there and they came to know that Thala has a vast knowledge in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and all the advanced technologies.

Thala Ajith will be assisting MIT in building advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Medical Express-2018 UAV Challenge, which will be held in Queensland, Australia in the month of September. On the film front, Thala Ajith will begin the shoot of Viswasam on May 7.
