The big budget Shankar-Vikram utopian fantasy Anniyan, has taken an extraordinary opening worldwide, on day-one of its release!

The film is already being touted as a hit. The all important word of mouth is good, and the highlights are the last 23 minutes of the film including the "Andangkaka..." song and the Vikram-Prakash Raj confrontation scene in the climax.

This climax scene in which Vikram changes his body language like a chamelion and Prakash Raj's agony and disbelief is sure to attract repeat audience. On the downside audience feel that the first half is too long and the Ambi character is unbelivable,as the reaction from a viewer at Maharani theatre in North Madras is - "Onnum Puriyale, Yaaru Ambi, eppidi Remo Anniyan avathu? Ithu magic aa?"

But who cares? The film has taken a bumper opening in Andhra too .Says K.R.Subramanian, of Prasad Film Laboratories,Chennai: "Aparichitudu has taken a very good opening in Andhra, in our Hyderabad multiplex people are standing up and clapping in the climax scene". Leading producer A.M.Ratnam called up Vikram from Hyderabad and said that it has opened like a Telugu super star movie!

In Kerala where monsoon has started, Anniyan has opened in many centres in two screens. Says Suresh Shenoy, an exhibitor in Ernakulam:"We opened in two screens here, and in pouring rains the film has taken 100 percent opening as good as a Mammootty or Mohanlal film. It is a super hit". In a one horse town like Kottayam in Kerala, it opened to 100 percent in two theatres!

And in Bangalore, Anniyan has opened to record crowds, at PVR the gold class(Rs500per ticket) has been sold out till Monday! As Vikram said in the evening at the Anniyan party in Chennai: "It is all set to be the biggest hit in my career. For the last couple of days I have not slept, I am going to crash out".
