The good news is that the four-day theatre lockout is over. The exhibitors, who were asking for scrapping local body taxes, heaved a sigh of relief as Tamil Nadu government finally relented.
Theatre’s across the state will reopen today with new ticket prices which includes GST. Tickets priced at Rs 100 or below will attract 18 % GST, while tickets priced at Rs 120 will attract 28% GST. It means a multiplex ticket in Chennai will cost Rs 153.60.
Due to the four day strike, new Tamil releases scheduled for July 7 has been postponed. Earlier content like Ivan Thanthiran which released to good reviews along with Vanamagan and Maragatha Naanayam continues.
The major release of the week is Spider-Man Homecoming in English and Tamil. The other bilingual release in Hindi and Tamil is Sridevi’s Mom. The other little known Hindi release is Guest In London.
The Malayalam release of the week is Prithviraj’s Tiyaan and the Telugu new release is Ninnu Kori.
