It is the big Independence Day weekend and there are plenty of new releases in all languages. The number of holidays has buoyed the trade to release so many films, which are fighting for theatre space.
In Tamil the biggest of them all is Dhanush’s VIP 2, which is releasing in nearly 450 screens in Tamil Nadu alone. Chennai city and Chengalpet where producer Kalaipuli S Thanu and SPI cinemas is releasing the film it is close to 90 screens! The Dhanush film is also getting prime shows and screens and special morning shows in addition.
The other big release via Thenandal Films is Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam, which has stood up to opposition and is releasing in nearly 350 plus screens in Tamil Nadu. Then there is director Ram’s long in the making Taramani, which has also got around 200 screens.
Akshay Kumar’s much talked about Swach Bharat film Toilet Ek Prem Katha is the big Hindi release of the week. The Hollywood releases of the week in Chennai are Atomic Blonde and the animation film Emoji Movie.
There are three major Telugu releases this week, out of which Rana Dagubatti’s Nene Raja Nene Mantri is the one getting the widest release. Nithin’s Lie and Bellamkonda Sai’s Jaya Janaki Nayaka are the other two releases.
The Malayalam releases in Chennai are last week’s hit release in Kerala Chunkzz and this week’s Clint. A Kannada film Mass Leader is also releasing.
