The last Friday (December 30) of 2011 has dawned.
There are going to be a record number of Tamil releases today, when ‘Cyclone Thane’ will be hitting Chennai and coastal Tamil Nadu.
There are 9 straight Tamil films and three dubbings. The Tamil releases are- Ammaana Summa Illai, Magan Kanakku, Maharaja, Madhuvum Maithilium, Paavi,Padhinettan Kudi Ellai Arambam, Karuthannan Rekla Race, Vazhividu Kanney Vazhividu and Vinayaga. The three dubbed films are Abaayam, Vettai Nayagan and Puyal Veeran.
All the new releases are small films which were lying in the cans for months, and are forced to get a theatrical release. A theatrical release on the last Friday of the year will ensure that they get government subsidies.
Most of them want to get the Rs 7 lakhs subsidy announced by the Tamil Nadugovernment for “select small budget films, which have Tamil titles.”
It also enables the producers and directors to send them for 2011 awards. Plus television channels will buy these films to be shown as “Puthan Puthiya Padam” !
