Its battle royal at the box-office this week as Sun Pictures ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay’s Vettaikaran starts his hunt in nearly 500 screens across the world.
However Vettaikaran has to take on James Cameron’s highly hyped 3D classic Avatar in its citadel of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The battle has been given a new dimension with AGS daring to take on the biggies with their Kandha Kottai releasing a day later on Saturday. Though the trade is only plumping for the biggies, never underestimate the small film.
At the last count Vettaikaran, whose Chennai city rights have gone for the highest price ever paid for a Vijay film is releasing in a record 16 screens. Avatar in English and Tamil is releasing in 14 screens including three 3D silver screens.
Both the films are going to take gargantuan openings, as the advance booking has been encouraging. At the same time Kandha Kottai, for a small film is releasing big in nine screens.
