There are two Tamil releases today- Ayngaran International’s Angadi Theru and Padakashala and a dubbed film Kuri. There is a big buzz about the Vasanthabalan directed Angadi Theru, which is the big movie of the week.
It’s Vasanthabalan’s magnum opus and is coming four years after his critically acclaimed Veyil, which was the first Tamil film to be screened officially at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Angadi Theru is being marketed aggressively by Ayngaran International who is releasing the film in nearly 200 screens across the world. In Chennai City the film is releasing in 10 screens and has got the best of shows in the multiplexes. The film has got hardly any opposition and is likely to take a decent opening in spite of having only newcomers.
The film is about people who come from small towns in southern Tamil Nadu to Chennai looking for a job. The film is set in Chennai’s, Ranganathan Street in T Nagar. It is about how everything, including human emotion, is up for sale in the marketplace.
New boy Mahesh, is paired with Anjali of Kattradhu Thamizh fame, along with 400 newcomers. It has music by GV Prakash and Vijay Antony.
