Come September and there is going to be an avalanche of new releases in all Indian languages. It is the beginning of the great Indian festival season and in the next 50 days, there are major festivals in different areas of the country. Bakrid and Onam will be celebrated this week.
This week’s big Tamil release is Vijay Sethupathi’s long overdue Puriyaatha Puthir, which is getting a lot of screens. The much raved about Kurangu Bommai, too gets a lot of screens. Oru Kanavu Pola is the third release.
The Hindi releases are Ajay Devgan’s action packed Baadshaho and the select multiplex release Shubh Mangal Savdhan. The lone Telugu release is Paisa Vasool. The Kannada film Mugulu Nage is also releasing this Friday with limited shows.
It is the big Onam weekend for lakhs of Malayalees living in Chennai and its suburbs. For the first time all the four Malayalam Onam releases are hitting select screens in Chennai, simultaneously with their Kerala release. The Onam biggies are – Mohanlal’s Vellipadinte Pusthakam, Nivin Pauly’s Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela, Mammootty’s Pullikkaran Staraa and Prithviraj’s Adam Joan.
