Sarath Kumar, Laila, Jasper
After a long gap, Sarath Kumar is back as a cop in Gambeeram. Duty comes first for this cop in a run-of-the-mill cop versus corrupt politicians story.
Muthusamy (Sarath Kumar) is a upright cop who rose from a mere inspector to Assistant Commissioner of police in Chennai city due to his hard work and dedication. He is a sort of demi-god to ordinary man and at times even roams the city during nights as Gurkha to ensure peace! So it is but natural that powerful politician-underworld nexus blacklist him.
In a flashback it is told that he had a happy family life with wife Saroja (Pranathi) in Erode as an inspector. He crosses sword with a local goonda politician Rajendran (Tanikala Bharani) for saving a ex-minister?s life. While his wife is struggling with life, our officer is protecting the minister?s life and Priya dies during delivery. Later he moves to Chennai with his daughter and tries to clean up the society of its scum. He is assisted by a lady constable Vijayalakshmi (Laila) who is a sort of protector to his daughter.
It is an out and out Sarath Kumar film as he dominates the film till the end. In action scenes he flexes his muscles and fights with a new villain Jasper (who is 165 kg!), and looks awesome. Laila has nothing much to do other than speak in her shrieky dubbed voice and sing duets with the hero. New girl Pranathi is promising, while Vadivelu's comedy does an interesting sideshow as a dumb cop. Suresh tries to make a racy cop story, which lacks a strong screenplay. The music of Mani Sharma is nothing great.
