Director Aashiq Abu’s Mammootty starrer Gangster has been subjected to strong criticism from every quarter, ever since it reached the theatres. There have been stories like the highly exaggerated figures that the film received as satellite rights.

It was said that the film was sold for Rs. 4 crores but then it was rumoured that the actual price was Rs. 1.5 crore!

Then there were reports of a TV channel announcing the film as a failure on the first day of its release.

Now, director Aashiq Abu has reportedly said in an interview that Gangster has made profits thanks to the satellite revenue and theatre collections.

Unlike most other industries, Malayalam is reluctant to disclose the trade figures and this means, we may never know the truth.
