The latest issue of the Malayalam women’s magazine Grihalakshmi has model and actress Gilu Joseph breast feeding a child. It comes with the caption “Don’t stare… we have to breast feed.”
Now, the campaign initiated by the magazine has been welcomed by many and there have been many comments in the social media platforms where many women have shared their experiences while breast feeding kids in the presence of others.
But then the picture is getting its own share criticisms, which are mainly against using an unmarried, dressed up model with “sindoor” who is not even looking at the kid.
“If the intentions were genuine, why didn’t the magazine feature a real mother in its cover,” asks a section of critics.
Gilu Joseph, who has written poems and has acted in forthcoming films like Parole, Ranam and Abrahaminte Santhathikal, says she was never in doubt when asked to model for the magazine cover.
You may accept the campaign as bold and genuine, or dismiss it as a marketing gimmick, but the magazine cover has become a hit and is selling like hot cakes.
