Malayalam cinema’s popular lyricist Gireesh Puthenchery (49) died of brain hemorrhage at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Wednesday (Feb 10) night.
Gireesh, was a major force in Malayalam film music as a leading lyric writer. He has won the prestigious Kerala State Award for the best lyricist seven times and had written lyrics for about 400 films.
He was also a script writer who has done good films like Vadakkumnathan, Kinnaripuzhaoram, Palavoor Devanarayanan, Meleparambil Aanveedu etc.
Gireesh, had been admitted to the hospital after he suffered a stroke last Saturday. He was twice operated upon, but his condition did not improve. He leaves behind his wife Beena and two young sons.
