Tamil cinema’s leading producer Gnanavel Raja has opened up on the biggest threat in Kollywood. The producer heaped praise on Telugu film industry and said “A big Telugu hero who has the business value of Rs 100cr is only charging 20cr as his remuneration. Here in Tamil, heroes with the similar market are asking 50cr remuneration. Even small actors are asking exorbitant salary, it has become impossible to make a film with many known actors these days”.
“As we spend more on the remuneration of actors, we couldn’t showcase the grandness which we witness in Telugu film. The Hindi satellite channels are also showing more interest to buy Telugu films”, added the producer.
“The strike has given us an awareness. I already have an office in Hyderabad, can’t make back to back films here in Tamil and burn my fingers. If they don’t change these things in Kollywood, there is no other go but to shift to Tollywood”, said Gnanavel.
Gnanavel also said that Telugu film industry is encouraging writers by paying them well but our industry developed the habit of providing good salary for directors and forgotten the importance of writers.
