Goa, the Kannada version of the Tamil film by the same name Goa, went on the floors recently. The movie is being remade into Kannada by Shankar Gowda though the original version did not fare well at the BO.

The movie was earlier titled as Punyatmaru but the producer decided to change the title to Goa on the day of the launch of the movie. It features comedy star Komal, Sriki and Tarun Chandra.

Rachel, who had appeared in an item song in Shah Rukh Khan’s Don 2, would make her debut in Kannada, as one of the three female leads of Goa. Originally from England, Rachel has acted in a few Hindi movies and is a trained dancer.

Surya will direct the movie, his second after the forgettable Yuga. The small budget movie is expected to wrap up shooting within 30 days. The Kannada version will have modifications to suit the local audiences, but the essence of the original movie will be retained.

Shankare Gowda’s previous film, Varada Nayaka, a remake of the hit Telugu movie, Lakshyam, met with average success at the BO. He was supposed to produce another movie for Sudeep, but the plan did not materialize. Consequently, he took up the low budget movie.

The rest of the star cast has not yet been finalized, and the makers are after well-known faces considering that the star value is not A list.
