[India] July 24(ANI): The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda has cancelled a show by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra after a former student claimed his content is 'anti-national.'
The university auditorium was booked for a show by Kamra to be held on August 11. However, a former student, Dr. Hemang Joshi, wrote to the University's Vice-Chancellor, opposing the event and alleging that the comedian 'disrespects the tricolour' on shows.
Speaking on the same, Registrar, Naveen Ojha said, "Why should we allow our platform for such activities? Our campus is a very peaceful one."
"As soon as we got to know that the act might include anti-social and anti-nationalist elements, we called it off," he added.
On being asked why Kunal was denied to perform here despite all formalities already been done, Ojha said, "Anybody can get the booking done in the auditorium via the clerk. However, when the administration found out that the show might disrupt peace on the campus, they called it off."
In response to the chaos, Kamra tweeted a cheeky post on Twitter, writing,"Ever been so cool that you find out from the news that you're not going to be working on a particular day? Celebrating my day off in the future on my day off today..."
The show 'Catching up with Kunal Kamra' was scheduled to take place in August during a Stand-Up comedy night. (ANI)
