New Delhi, March 6 (IANS) As many as 15,000 women in Punjab have reportedly been abandoned in the last two decades by NRI grooms and forthcoming fiction show "Gurbani" will focus on the same by showing the struggle of such brides.

"Gurbani" will bring the trials and tribulations of an abandoned bride through the protagonist Gurbani, who is forced to marry a NRI.

"'Gurbani' is inspired by true stories and we researched for around a year. We wanted to highlight important issue of abandoned brides and how parents need to change their mindset and be more careful about the choices they make for their daughters," said Prashant Bhatt, weekday programming head, Colors.

Produced by Damini K. Shetty's Mystic Entertainment, the show's outdoors have been shot in Punjab.

Amritsar-based fashion designing student Shefali Sharma will make her acting debut in the title role of Gurbani.

The show also features veteran actress Navni Parihar, Suraj Thapar and Rita Bhaduri.

Sufi singer Harshdeep Kaur will narrate Gurbani's journey through her music.

"There are some emotions that can be put across only through music. In the show, I will do the task of a narrator. I am excited to be part of the show because it gives a message and has a wonderful storyline," said Harshdeep.

"Gurbani" will go on air March 18. It will replace ongoing show "Parichay - Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka".

Earlier, Star One's show "Geet Hui Sabse Parayi" had touched upon the issue of runaway grooms.
