One of the finest actors in Indian cinema Mohanlal turns 53 today (May 21). He has been there right at the top in Malayalam cinema for the past 33 years.

The actor, on his birthday is shooting for Jilla, his Tamil project with Vijay on location in Chalakudy. He is an actor par excellence and charmer who can sweep you off your feet with just a smile regardless of your gender, age, caste and creed.
The actor made a sensational debut as a villain in Fazil’s Manjil Virinja Pookal (1980) and slowly graduated to hero roles. Mohanlal became a superstar in early 1990’s due to the variety of roles he did which created the fan base. The characters he did in films like Thalavattom, Namukku Parkan Mundhiri Thoppukal, Gandhi Nagar 2nd Street, Rajavinte Magan and so many others gave him an image which went down well with the masses.
It was films of Priyadarsan, Padmarajan, Sathyan Anthikad, Sibi Malayil and others who honed his skills as an actor of substance. Later Mohanlal graduated into larger than life characters in early 2000 with a series of mass action laced super hero films like Narasimamham. Shaji Kailas and Ranjith films of that era gave him that phenomenal reach and a fan base among the youth.
