It's quite amazing that a little known actor called Vidyut Jamwal who played the role of a villain in John Abraham's Force and the Tamil films Billa 2 and Thuppakki, would turn out to be a competent actor in his own right.
And here's an upcoming film where he plays the lead role of an Army commando. The combination of his leading man looks and his incredible martial arts skills makes you wonder. Could this actor be destined for greatness?
India has arguably never produced a good martial arts film. The reason for that is quite simple actually. We have never had actors who are also great martial artists, barring Akshay Kumar. It is time we showed the world we can do martial arts films too.
And Commando might just be that film. Watching the trailer, you begin to realize that this is a film with bone-crunching action scenes. It unfortunately seems to have an unnecessary romantic side-story too, but hopefully that shouldn't get in the way of all the fighting.
Watch Commando in theatres to support it at the box office. If the film does well, one can assume that Vidyut will get more roles in films. We might just be witnessing the birth of the Indian martial arts film genre.
