Mahesh Babu, Kajal Agarwal
The publicity trailers and wall posters further raked up the expectation levels.
Surya (Mahesh Babu) cherishes the dream to become a don, prompted by his vexation against society. Arriving in Mumbai, his set objective is to graduate from a street goonda to a dreaded goon who can shake Delhi politics.
Knowing that Chitra (Kajal) is the daughter of Mumbai police commissioner Ajay Bharadwaj (Nazar), Surya pretends to be in love with her, so that friendship with her could be taken advantage of in knowing the cops` movements. In this backdrop, Surya helps an opposition party leader Laloo (Sayaji Shinde) to win the local elections.
With this, Surya invites the wrath of ruling party leader Jayadev (Prakash Raj). Atlast, Surya achieves his goal, that of becoming a dreaded don. Why did he become a don? What next? This forms the crux of the film.
Mahesh Babu almost ripped the screen with his energetic, powerful performance, with dialogues deserving "Once more" appreciation. Kajal, who provided both oomph and performance, has just adequate footage, rendering her role as a mere glam doll without any scope for creativity.
Prakash Raj, Sayaji Shinde and Nazar sounded routine, but each of them is a highlight to the film. Shweta Bhardwaj is a good replacement to Mumaith Khan. The story sounds farfetched, demanding logic. The screenplay is a saving grace, which works like magic, making the audiences forget the monotony in between.
The major strength of the film is Mahesh Babu, his dialogues and songs. Comedy is pushed to the backdrop. Cinematography is an asset to the movie. Thaman`s music glues the audience to their seats. Production values are high. Editing is crisp.
The audiences who would compare the movie to Pokiri are sure to get disappointed. If one could watch the movie for Mahesh Babu`s sake, it might fare well. Anyways, the film is all set to rake in bucks for the producers thanks to the Shankranti season.
Verdict: Strictly for Mahesh Babu fans
