Thaandavam - Vikram`s next biggie

Jagapathy Babu is certainly a no-nonsense guy and one of the soft-spoken actors who will win you completely with his charm. In this conversation with sify.com, JB as he is known among friends, gets candid on his outing with Thaandavam, his equation with director Vijay and Vikram and more.

How did the role in Thaandavam fall into your lap?
When director AL Vijay met me and narrated the story, there was no chance I could say “No” to him. The offer was too tempting and I did have to think twice before I signed the film.

But did you feel insecure as the film had Vikram in the lead role?
I have always shared screen space with other heroes and muliti-starrers in Telugu and for me, my character and lines were clearly written. So where is the place for insecurities? Right now I am doing a film with Sudeep in Kannada. Moreover the producers UTV gave me the same treatment they gave Vikram and Vijay is any ‘ dream director.

How was it working with Vikram.
I had never met Vikram before. He is super cool and hardworking. In fact seeing him work, we all get motivated. By the time we finished the film, we all were like one big family and I started missing them.

How did the one-month long London schedule go?
Everything was well planned and executed by UTV and director Vijay. He is so focussed and never gets angry or hyper during the shoots even if anything goes wrong. Every single person- be it producers, director, cameraman Nirav Shah, production designer or assistants, they were all wonderful as a team.

Are you going to be in Chennai for the release?
Unfortunately, I am at Peringode Mana in Kerala undergoing two weeks Ayurvedic massage and rejuvenation course.

Will you be doing more Tamil films?
Why not, if the role is exciting? I know the language and for Thaandavam I dubbed in my own voice. I love challenges and you want to keep growing as an actor, experiencing new languages and technology.

There are three heroines in the film? How comfortable were you doing the romantic scenes?
(Laughs) That’s one thing I’m jealous of Vikram as has all the three girls. But jokes apart- I know Anushka quite well and we’ve worked together. I was meeting Amy and Lakshmi for the first time. Amy is a rock star and a superb person and now to be cast in Shankar’s film shows how talented she is. Lakshmi has also become a good friend.
