I was never a star: Gautam Chaturvedi

The small screen has produced several stars and Gautam Chaturvedi, last seen in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, is one of them. But he refuses to accept the tag and says he would like to be known as an actor.

"An actor remains an actor. I was never a star, I am not a star, I am just an actor. For an actor, making a comeback is not a tough task," Gautam said.

"A star's fame is short-lived and goes away with one serial, not an actor's. A lot of my contemporaries like Sakshi (Sakshi Tanwar), Ram (Ram Kapoor) have come back with some nice performances. They are fantastic actors and they are not stars," Gautam said.

In "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii", he played Gaurav and also featured in shows like Ghar Ek Mandir, Kuch Jhuki Si Palkien and Kaash.

Currently busy with his production house Pine Tree Pictures, which produced play and corporate films, he says that acting has taken a back seat for the time being.

Another problem he faces in accepting acting assignments is the large chunk of dates that producers want him to commit to them.

"Everyone, who calls up, needs at least 20 days of a month and I can't give more than seven days because of my production house. I don't want to take something up and then not able to give time to it," said Gautam who may make a comeback as an actor in another one or two year.

"I don't have a problem doing negative, positive or even a grandfather's role. It has to be a meaty role. Something that suits my age and personality," he said.

Pine Tree Pictures has also produced a Hindi serial titled "Pehchaan" and a Marathi series "Talavar Taal De Dhamaal".

On his wish list is to produce mainstream family-oriented shows.

"Indian audience loves family oriented shows. We also want to do mainstream family oriented shows. But I want to do shows which show the change in society," he said.

His company also arranges social events every year. They have arranged "Snehanjali", an evening of Sufi songs, to raise money for street children.
