Ilaiyaraaja wins the legal battle

In his recent video statement, music composer Ilaiyaraaja has said that henceforth IPRS (Indian Performing Right Society) will not collect royalty for his songs.

Instead, Chennai based Cine Musicians' Union will regulate the royalty of the composer's songs which are played in events, musical concerts and any other commercially motivated shows.

The royalty amount will be used for the betterment of cinema musicians. Ilaiyaraaja said : "If you are going to sing my song for free, there is no objection from my side. But if you are paid to sing my song or yield money from your shows, a small amount must be given as royalty. This will set an example to the future generation and all the musicians will be benefited by this amount".

In their statement, Cine Musicians' Union also thanked Ilaiyaraaja for his new initiative.
