A joint meeting of industry associations was held on Tuesday in Chennai to sort out the vexing “proposed 30% Entertainment Tax” issue.
However none of the association leaders was willing to be quoted on it, as they did not want to rub the TN government the wrong way.
Those who took part in the discussion were members from Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC), Tamil Directors Association, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.
Later, they issued a joint statement urging Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to introduce a government order (GO) that will allow theatre owners to fix “flexible ticket rates for the first two weeks of a new release”.
This was the policy during the previous ADMK regime of 2006. It was replaced by the DMK government who put a ceiling of Rs 120 on ticket rates.
