Chennai High Court has passed an interim stay order against the release of Vijay Antony’s Kaali. On hearing the plea of William Alexander of Picture Box Company, Justice CV Karthikeyan said that Fathima Vijay Antony, producer of Kaali can release the film by depositing Rs 4.73cr.
In his petition William Alexander submitted enough proof saying that he released Vijay Antony’s previous film Annadurai and to compensate the losses incurred by the film, Fathima promised him to give distribution rights of Kaali at a discounted price. Alexander agreed to the deal proposed by Fathima but because of the strike, he couldn’t lock the territory wise business and delayed settling the full payment to the producer.
According to Alexander, irked by the delay, Fathima and her production house tried to break the promise. Now, Alexander wants Rs 4.73cr (total loss of Annadurai) from Vijay Antony Film Corporation before the release of Kaali.
Kaali was originally scheduled to release on April 13 but because of the ongoing strike, the makers are waiting to announce an alternative release date.
