Kollywood is known for flowery hellos, fake friendships and bitter rivalries. After all stars are made up of flesh and blood and they take insults to heart just like they take fame to head.
Has anyone noticed that Jai the soft-spoken hero who has a very important role in Raja Rani did not attend a single function related to the film? He was totally missing from all the promotional activity along with the Raja Rani team?
Inspite of being in Chennai, Jai did not come for the glitzy audio launch of the film and kept away from the recent success meet. And the producers also played him down, as all the focus was on Arya, Nayanthara, Santhanam and Nazriya.
A source close to him revealed that director Atlee gave him a raw deal and some of the scenes shot with Jai had been chopped at the editing table. Jai’s first shock came when the first-look of the film appeared which said “Arya in Raja Rani”. When Jai asked Atlee about it, the smart director blamed it on the production house!
Jai was promised by the producers for whom he had worked earlier in Engeyum Eppothum, that he would be given equal footing as Arya. It was one of the conditions that he had laid before signing the film. But he was totally ignored even from the posters of the film.
The gentleman that he is, Jai preferred not to make it an issue and stayed away from the promotions and wait for the audience’s verdict. And just like his convictions, it was Jai’s character and the first half where he appears that has been appreciated by the viewers. And contrary to producers heaping all laurels on Atlee and Arya, it was Jai who stole the film as per critics and audience’s viewpoint.
Now will Jai break his silence as he is holding a party for the media today (Oct 3) evening? He feels that the media has not only appreciated his role in the film but also gave him his due as an actor of substance.
