From shooting his own stunt scenes to pitting himself against renowned fighters, John's doing it all for Race 2.
"It's a unique action sequence that hasn't been seen in any film so far. John's physique is such that we had to get a competitor as good as him," said director Abbas.
"With our research, we found Andrew - who's a former Mr Universe and a professional fighter from South Africa. Both of them trained for the sequence before they shot."
The noteworthy point is that John shot for the scene despite getting injured several times!
"When the action starts, a huge cage made of iron bars comes down. John was injured several times, but we never realised it till the day's shoot was over," added Abbas.
"Even when John got a 14-inch cut on his back [which needed 14 stitches], we did not know it. Later, we thought we would not be able to shoot for at least four or five days, but John continued despite his injury."
The action sequence was filmed over 14 days at Mumbai's Filmistan Studios, with the shoot often wrapping up at two in the morning.
"John worked out for three months for the perfect body," said Abbas. "He wanted to match up to Andrew, working on a physique that is leaner than the one he sported in Force, but at the same time a little beefed up."
Produced by Tips, action-thriller Race 2 also stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel. It is scheduled to release on January 25, 2013.
