In director M Padmakumar’s Joseph, actor Joju George plays the title role of a retired police officer, who along with his friends try to unveil the mystery behind the death of a woman.

Joseph (Joju George) is a retired cop, who is brilliant in investigations. As it is shown in one of the initial scenes, he arrives at a house where a double murder has happened, at the request of police officials, and finds out the culprit in a matter of some minutes.

It’s just by chance that he smells something fishy behind the death of someone with whom he has an emotional connection. The rest of the story is about how he finds the intriguing facts that led to the incident.

There are some interesting characters that are part of the narration and some twists and turns in the story that keeps the viewer glued on to the screen. However, more details on all that could become spoilers and so we are not discussing it any further.

Though the basic concept is compelling and the story is genuine, one gets the feeling that the script could have been tighter. Director Padmakumar has adopted a conventional pattern to tell the tale and for those who are regularly watching modern thrillers this one could be an okay watch at best. The songs at times affect the pace of the narrative.

But then the highlight of the film is a terrific performance from Joju George. He becomes the character and conveys the array of emotions that he faces in a brilliant way. He appears in three different looks but he is seen mostly in the older version. The rest of the cast have all done their parts very well, especially Athmeeya, Dileesh Pothen, Sudhi Koppa and Jaffer Idukki.

Joseph could have been better but in the current form, it’s an honest attempt that needs to be appreciated. Watch this one!
