Junga review: Has few funny moments with clever lines thrown in at lightning speed
A comedy entertainer
Friday 27 July 2018
Vijay Sethupathi, Yogi babu, Sayyeshaa
If the uproarious laughter from the audience, watching Junga in the theatre was any indication, then the film is sure to satisfy its target audiences. The film has few funny moments with clever lines thrown in at lightning speed especially in the first half. What’s interesting is that this cocktail work to some extent as logic and subtlety are sacrificed.
Junga (Vijay Sethupathi), is the son of gangster Ranga (Vijay Sethupathi), and grandson of Linga (Vijay Sethupathi again). But the problem with Junga's dad and grandad is that they spent lavishly on food, clothes and booze and due to this costly lifestyle, they lose all their wealth and pledges their Cinema Paradise theater to Chettiyaar (Suresh Menon).
Motivated by the life story of his dad and grand-dad, Junga becomes a stingy gangster and earns a Crore to get back his theater but Chettiyaar throws him out of his palace. A wounded Junga decides to kidnap Chettiyaar's only daughter Yazhini (Sayyeshaa) who lives in Paris and blackmail her dad!! Will the funny don and his assistant Yoyo (Yogi babu) be successful?
Gokul tries to follow the dark comedy genre, which worked for him in Idharkku Thaane Aasaipattai Balakumara. To be honest, Junga tickle our funny bones in a few sequences but the comedy falls flat in few scenes. Although the lengthy dialogue of Vijay Sethupathi summarizing the entire story in the pre-climax was adorable, his comic timing has not been worked out in most of the scenes. The climax chasing scenes are unbelievable and too long.
Watch the trailer here:
Vijay Sethupathi’s sequences with Madonna Sebastian was a complete waste of time and it only tests our patience. Sayyeshaa is there only in the second half and she is perfect eye-candy who looks gorgeous. She shines in the dancing department, as always in Lollikiriya track. Yogi Babu is funny in parts while Saranya Ponvannan and the old lady who is Junga's grandmother are hilarious.
Technically, Dudley's crystal clear cinematography brings the grandiose feel to the film and Siddharth Vipin's music is good. The film is way too long at 2 hours and 35 minutes. Overall, Junga is a comedy entertainer which offers a few laughs.
Junga review-Verdict: Entertaining

#Junga - Another bad movie from Vijay Sethupathi this year ( after ONNPS). Sayeesha looks gud. Terrific perf from Saranya Ponvannan. Liked d songs. Dark ‘comedy’ ? Such a boring screenplay & scenes. Here & thr few laugh exists; thanks to yogi, remaining scenes r mere head ache.

#Junga 2nd half - The action happens in Paris in exotic locations. The huge budget, production value shows.
But the mafia - police - chases 'international action' angle seemed forced.. Feels long too..
Overall, a watchable comedy - action entertainer which! The Paati rocks!
#JUNGA - A super super super coollll entertainer.. Perfect stress buster and a weekend delight.. Don't miss... The film ends with the dailogue "JUNGA running #successfully jiii" and its TRUE!!!

#Junga Loved the fun filled screenplay and Dark Comedy that @DirectorGokul specialises in. @VijaySethuOffl and Yogibabu combo Thaarumaaru. Sethu na Dialogue delivery ultimate. Paati n Saranya Mam chanceless. Movie full on fun. Just go and have a great laugh
#Junga - Disappointing is the word. Coming from the successful #Idhaaba combo of VJS - Director Gokul this one falls way short of the expected entertainment quotient. Never seen Vijay Sethupathi unfit in a role as much as this. A below par outing overall. Poorly executed!
