Dhanush’s production house Wunderbar Films took to its Twitter page to announce that Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala is a profitable venture for them and denied all the loss reports.A television news channel's online site had reported that Kaala was a huge loss to its producers.
“We would like to dispel rumours run in few articles on #Kaala. Contrary to it, #Kaala is a successful and profitable project for Wunderbar Films and we thank Superstar for the opportunity given to us. We also thank the audience for the positive response given to the films”, tweeted Wunderbar Films.
The production house seems to be upset with a few recent articles stating that the film is a box office failure for distributors and theater owners!
Kaala was not sold to distributors, it was given on commission basis by the producers to their trusted distributors. The buzz is that Kaala did not make as much money as anticipated, but definitely is not a loss. Of'course it did not collect as much as Rajinikanth's previous film Kabali and Tamil cinema’s current two leading stars—Vijay and Ajith’s recent films Mersal and Vivegam.
The truth is that the Tamil Nadu box office collection of Kaala is not up to expectations considering that it is a Superstar film.
Usually, Vijay and Ajith films always lag behind Superstar Rajinikanth’s box office numbers. For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a Rajinikanth’s film registered collection which is lower than the Vijay and Ajith starrer and it is not a good sign for the superstar!
