Avg user rating:
When Silambarasan and director Tarun Gopi came together in Kaalai we expected a racy masala entertainer. Sadly it is a watered down version of earlier films and ends up as an over-the-top ham enterprise.

The story is confusion confounded. There are three characters called Jeeva who are battling each other- one is rowdy Jeeva who is blackmailing the ACP Jeeva (Lal) and wants to marry his beautiful daughter ( Vedika)! She seeks help of college tough guy Jeeva (Silambarasan) , who incidentally is baying for the blood of ACP Jeeva as he was responsible for the death of his grandma (Seema), who was a village head! Soon cops daughter falls in love with the angry young Jeeva, who has his cousin a female vixen (Sangeeta) after him! Want to hear more of this inept film?

The director Tarun Gopi has just rehashed his own racy Vishal action movie Thimiru and passed it off as Kaalai, there is no new thread in this film. The music director G.V Prakash has churned out his worst ever tunes which is pure cacophony with unbearable songs like Kutty Pisache?.

Finally, if it is endurable it is only because of Silambarasan, who tries to salvage the show with his style and gimmicks, but the script lets him down. Nothing much can be written about other artists -Seema as the grandmother, Sangeeta as the girl who is after Simbu and others.

This Kaalai is like bull in china shop and makes you groan!

Verdict: Stay Away!
