Vijay Antony is back with a slick emotional drama Kaali. The film's director Kiruthiga has presented her story in a non linear format with multiple episodes.
An NRI doctor Bharat(Vijay Antony) comes to Tamil Nadu in search of his biological parents. Bharat visits the orphanage where he was adopted from and gets to know that his mother's name is Parvathy. According to Bharat, it's perfectly fine for a man to be unaware about the existence of his mom but it would be a shame if he doesn't know who his dad is? So Bharat goes to his mom's village to find his father. With the help of a local villager Gopi (Yogi Babu), Bharat sets up a clinic and silently investigates about his mom and estranged dad.
To be honest, among the three episodes, the first one featuring Amritha is totally needless. Though Kiruthiga justifies the connection of Amritha's episode, it only tests our patience. But the other two episodes are well written with strong characters and emotional moments. Compared to his previous films, Vijay Antony has tried to experiment with different looks and body language. The film basically explores true love through different sub plots.
High Jack review: Original and fun | Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain review: |Simple, sincere, sweet story l Bhaskar Oru Rascal review: Falls flat both in comedy and sentiments | Deadpool 2 review: Absurd, funny and completely crazy
Among the four heroines, Anjali and Amritha were wasted whereas Shilpa shines and Sunainaa also gets a pivotal role. Yogi Babu's presence provides the needed comic relief in this serious emotional drama and his one-liners are a riot.
Technically, all the songs of Vijay Antony hit the right chords and the background score elevates the emotional moments. Cinematographer Richard M Nathan used different color tones for the three sub plots and the editor Lawrence too has coherently packaged the film without confusing the audiences.
Overall, Kaali is a neatly made family drama from Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi with an experimental screenplay, making this film worth watching.
Verdict : Neat family drama

#Kaali 1st half - A doctor travels from USA to India in search of his biological parents. The Amma sentiment connects well early on. #YogiBabu has a main part with his comedy. @vijayantony looks handsome.
#Kaali Interval: Playing to the gallery. @iYogiBabu is the highlight of the proceedings, keeping the mood chilled out. Small surprise at the halfway mark, hope it pays off in the second half.

#Kaali works as a moving drama about pursuit of truth. Quite a departure for @astrokiru from her last film and she proves herself as a solid commercial filmmaker. @vijayantony in multiple roles shines, making us root for each of the character he portrays.

#Kaali (Tamil) - An outdated emotional drama with a trial and error execution. Basically, 'thalaya suthi mooka thodranga'. @vijayantony @mrsvijayantony @vijayantonyfilm @astrokiru @yoursanjali @TheSunainaa @iYogiBabu @Richardmnathan
